Make a short before-and-after timeline
Record when you first noticed the issue and which rooms are affected. If an earlier photograph or repair document exists, keep it with your current notes. This helps distinguish a new observation from an older mark without claiming that the storm caused everything you see.
Visible roofing damage and an indoor leak may be connected, but an inspection is needed to assess the source and extent. GAF's homeowner guidance identifies coverings, underlayment and flashing among the components relevant to leaks.
Observe from a safe place
Photograph what you can see from indoors or the ground. Do not approach fallen wires, climb onto the roof or stand below a bulging ceiling. Keep people away from an unsafe room. If water is near electrical equipment or there is an immediate danger, seek the appropriate emergency help.
Explain whether water is still entering
Tell the provider whether the leak is active, whether the opening appears exposed and whether access around the property is obstructed. Ask what assessment or temporary protection may be available. Availability and scheduling depend on the provider and conditions.
Separate temporary protection from the repair
A temporary cover is not the same scope as correcting the roof defect. If protection is proposed, ask who will inspect the underlying issue and what follow-up is needed. Read about roof tarping enquiries for questions to ask.
Insurance is a separate discussion
The timing of a storm does not determine policy coverage. The insurer assesses the claim under the policy. Keep an accurate record and ask your insurer what information they require; the referral service does not decide or manage insurance claims.
Our insurance questions guide explains how to prepare that conversation without assuming a claim will be covered.

Call Fountain RoofLink to discuss the roofing need and ask about a connection. We do not provide emergency dispatch or a promised arrival time. Contractors assess the work independently and homeowners choose whether to hire them.
Questions about storm-related roof damage
Can I ask about an active leak after a storm?
Yes. Explain that water is actively entering and ask what service is available. A connection or arrival time cannot be guaranteed.
Does storm timing establish insurance coverage?
No. Ask your insurer about the particular policy, cause of damage and documentation required.
